The Chemical Engineering Department first started as a part of the Engineering Sciences Faculty in 1968 with very limited means. After moving to its own building which also houses the Chemical Engineering laboratories, the department started to grow and develop further. It was operated for a while within the Chemistry Faculty, which was formed with the Chemical Engineering Department and the Chemistry Department. After dissolution of the Chemistry Faculty, the Chemical Engineering Department found its true place within the Engineering Faculty.

Along with the Bachelor's Degree, the Chemical Engineering Department also offers Master's and Doctorate Degrees. As of March, 2022, the academic staff consists of 6 Professors, 10 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors, 7 Research Assistants, with 5 of them holding Doctorate Degrees, 2 Lecturers with 1 of them holding Doctorate Degree, and 2 Technical Personnel.

In addition to the chemistry laboratory, instrumental analysis laboratory, and chemical engineering laboratory, the Department also includes 18 research laboratories. Topics such as: separation processes, process waste removal, active biological substances, heterogeneous substances, production technologies, polymers, advanced substances, process dynamics, and simulation are studied in these laboratories.

In the department, which gives special importance to computer support in education, there are 32 computers in total, equipped with programs such as Microsoft Office, MATLAB, Aspen Plus and AutoCAD, all with internet connection in two computer labs offered to students.

Scholarship opportunities are offered by Local companies and The Chamber of Chemical Engineers (KMO).

Graduates of the Department can find job opportunities in fields such as petrochemistry, paint, polymers, paper, detergent, textile and food.
